About Us

Wild Woman Counseling and Wellness was created by Alexis Dunlap, IMFT-S, in an effort to provide quality mental health counseling services in the state of Ohio. At Wild Woman, we value thoroughly assessing various areas of a client's life, in order to provide comprehensive, effective treatment. When in treatment at Wild Woman, your therapist will likely discuss getting out in nature if you rarely leave your house, journaling as a way to externalize and detach from your negative thinking patterns, practice meditation in an effort to calm your mind and bring you peace, and explore how your social media usage impacts your mental health. Above all, a well-rounded approach to assessment and treatment is of utmost importance at Wild Woman Counseling + Wellness.

In addition to the clinical pieces of treatment, administratively, Wild Woman is committed to providing quick responses to any client inquiry, in an effort to get you on the track of understanding yourself, healing your wounds, and growing into the best version of yourself. If you are committed to improving your mental health, and are ready to learn and grow, you have come to the right place.

"Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." — Albus Dumbledore

Alexis is an Independent Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisor by day, and a wife and mother by night. She values honesty, openness, vulnerability, and grit, and that is reflected in the services she provides. When working with Alexis, clients are given a safe space to build a trusting, therapeutic relationship that will be the foundation of which change will occur. Through the trust that is built, clients feel safe to be vulnerable in addressing the root of their mental health concerns. Using interventions proven to benefit specific mental health concerns, Alexis helps clients focus on their presenting concern, and tackling it head on. Change is a slow process, and one that looks different for each person, but when working with the right therapist, clients will always feel safe to make the changes that are necessary.

Gardening is one of Alexis’ favorite hobbies, and she appreciates reflecting on how the things you consume, such as food, vitamins, minerals, and even media, and society’s thoughts, etc.,  might impact your mental health. When working with her, clients will be more aware of the connections between their emotional health and their physical health, and the impacts that has on them as a whole. Through their work with Alexis, clients will begin to feel empowered to make healthier choices for themselves and their relationships. Clients will start to see how different aspects of their lives impact their mental health, and through this process, start being selective about what they choose to allow into their lives.
